It’s time to discover a collection of the finest vessels from Aotearoa New Zealand’s rich nautical history. 14 yachts and launches, some well over 100 years old, are moored at the Heritage Landing in Silo Park, Auckland CBD.

Now, people from all over Tāmaki Makaurau will be able to see [AH1] these beauties for themselves by attending the nautical heritage open days. Held by The Classic Yacht Association of New Zealand, in association with Eke Panuku, these exciting events will be held on:

Sunday 27 June

Saturday 7 August (all boats open)

Sunday 12 September

Sunday 10 October

Sunday 14 November (all boats open)[

By visiting Heritage Landing, you’ll be able to view and explore New Zealand racing yachts that date from 1895 to post-World War 2 and beyond.

Maynard Bray, co-founder of the prestigious Off Centre Harbour in Maine, USA, describes his joy at seeing these boats for himself.

“After reading about the classic wooden boats of New Zealand and writing about them here in the US, I was anxious to view these beauties in first-hand. Behold, there they were - many of the century-old classics I’d read about, written of, and looked at vicariously.

“How wonderful that I could see these beauties, designed and built by the world-famous Logans and Baileys - and other NZ legends - together and close up!”

Despite recent America’s Cup Events marking a new era of technology and top-level yacht racing, classic techniques like triple skin construction are unlike most other boat building technics around the world, creating strong, light and long-lasting hulls.

Pick an open day, come aboard and sea these amazing yachts for yourself, it’s knot to be missed.
